Xenophobia: Protest erupts in Abuja, angry Nigerians target South African businesses

Angry Nigerians went on rampage on Wednesday, September 4, in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, in protest against attacks on the country’s citizens in South Africa.

The protesters, according to The Nation, blocked the roads, burnt tyres and attacked a mast belonging to one of the telecommunications companies operating in Nigeria.

Premium Times further reports that the protesters stormed a business orgaisation with roots in South Africa forcing men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to mobilize to the scene.

The report added that the protesters were prevented by the police from attacking the mall.

It was earlier reported that some Nigerians staged a massive protest at Shoprite premises along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, which has led to huge traffic gridlock.

The protesters are calling for a shutdown of all businesses that are owned by South Africans in the country.

An alleged altercation with the police has reportedly claimed the live of one of the protesters.

Over the years, several Nigerians have been killed and their shops and businesses burnt down by South Africans in a series of Xenophobic attacks.

Musa Wada emerges PDP gov candidate in Kogi

Engr. Musa Wada has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the November 16 governorship election. Musa Wada, a younger brother of the immediate past Governor Idris Wada, who also contested for the ticket, scored 748 votes to clinch the party ticket.
