Supreme Court sacks Ihedioha as Imo governor, declares Hope Uzodimma winner

Fr. Mbaka had predicted defeat for Ihedioha

History was made on Tuesday, January 14, in Nigeria as the Supreme Court sent the sitting governor of Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha away from the seat

In his place, the apex court declared Hope Uzodimma as the authentic winner of the 2019 governorship election in the state.

The decision of the court was handed down by a seven-man panel of justices which declared that Ihedioha was not duly elected.

The panel of judges were led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

It was reported that there had earlier been palpable tension in the state after the Supreme Court stood down judgement in the suit challenging the election of Governor Emeka Ihedioha.

The report said the apex took the decision on Tuesday, January 14.

The appeal challenging Ihedioha's victory at the poll was filed by Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the March 9 election.

The judgement by the Supreme Court gives an edge to the prediction of Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, a Catholic priest, who recently predicted that Uzodinma would govern Imo state.

Mbaka was vilified for saying Ihedioha would be sacked.

Father Mbaka had made the declaration late Tuesday, December 31 during his passover night ministration.

The priest declared that the APC will take over the leadership from the Peoples Democratic Party-led government of Ihedioha.
