Dino Melaye loses case at Court of Appeal

The victory of Dino Melaye as the senator of Kogi West was on Friday, October 11, nullified by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. Delivering the verdict, Justice Yahaya Dantijo, the head of a three-member panel of the court, affirmed the earlier judgment of the election petition tribunal which had set aside Melaye's victory, The Cable reports. Recall that the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday, September 25 had reversed the judgment in appeals filed by Melaye, challenging his election victory that was quashed by National Assembly election petition tribunal. Alleged corruption: Ex-governor Ambode faces arrest as Lagos lawmakers meet

A former governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode, and four others who served in his government could be up for arrest if the threat by the state House of Assembly takes effect It is understood that the lawmakers took this decision after two preliminary reports presented by different ad-hoc committees set up by the House to investigate the 820 buses purchased by the former governor and to appraise the 2019 mid year budget. Those that could be affected by the arrest include Kazeem Adeniji (attorney general and commissioner for Justice), Olusegun Banjo (commissioner for budget), Akinyemi Ashade (commissioner for finance) and Wale Oluwo (commissioner for energy and mineral resources). BREAKING: Court Grants Sowore N100m Bail After 2 Months In DSS Custody

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted Omoyele Sowore bail after two months in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). Sowore, a former presidential candidate, was arrested by the DSS on August 3, 2019, for calling for nationwide protests, tagged RevolutionNow, against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government. The DSS accused the Sahara Reporters founder of plotting with foreign interests to overthrow the Buhari government that was re-elected in February. Despite a court order to release him last week, the secret police failed to obey and then arraigned him at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday. Sowore was arraigned on a seven-count charge alongside one Olawale Bakare, but both accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
